Rescuing elderly couple living in extreme conditions!
During September 2010, the Miraflores Community Centre had the visit of three Bupa volunteers, Azam Nazim from Denmark, Fued Ghazali from Denmark, and Silvia Maria Montes from Spain, who worked in our Centre and stayed at our House of Volunteers located in Machachi.
Our volunteers helped in all areas; but specially maintaining and cleaning our community centre, painting walls and helping with the physical image of our centre.
They also started the hygiene program, helping bathing elderly and kids after school and teaching them how to develop higiene habits.
The volunteers also continued with a dental hygiene campaign, with material donated from Colgate like toothbrush, brushes, mouthwash and flour.
"Our volunteers were very helpful in starting and operating the hygiene program with elderly, and improving the image of our centre" said Estefania Sandoval project Miraflores Director.
Elderly lost they fear to take a bath in the Centre, and children loved to take a bath after school. This project helped also to unify all elderly because they went to eat at the Center´s dining room after the bath.
In the near future we are planning to wash also their clothes and have a room full of clean clothes as a result of donations.
Thanks to our volunteers for all the work and dedication in Miraflores!!! Hope you all come back soon!!!
